Low-rise , High-density housing in Amsterdam, Netherlands by West 8

They achieve a density of 100 units per hectare, lets assume 3 ppl per unit thats 300 ppl per hectare. Impressive density. Its really interesting how they achieve such high density with the amount of variations of each house. How each house have their own identity.66_large

  1. so all architects designing in same site right? i think be interesting to find out the common constraints and the different parameters which created the variations…

  2. Some of the common constraints are , 30 -50 percent of each housing unit needs to be void, to allow for sunlight penetration and private green space. One car parking space. Fences infront of the house to mark the private space etc.

    these are the main parameters

    • oh, so each design will follow the these rules? be useful if u can do a kind of comparative analysis? diagrams n stuff…
then u can start to define ur own constraints?
was thinkin u might wanna use the parameters of this case study to experiment with houdini, see if u can create a parametric model which allows u to design one of these houses?
